Question: Should you give your email out?

Only give your email address to legitimate and credible organisations. If you are at all unsure of the actual identity of an entity or person asking you for your email address do take a bit more time to check if this may be indeed a scam or risky before giving what is requested.

Is it good to give out your email address?

It is the most public piece of personal information you have besides your name. But what you may not know about your email address could hurt you. Many passwords reset via email, so even if you use a separate, long and strong password on, for instance, your bank account, a thief with access to your email can reset it.

Can someone hack my email account?

You email account can act as a gateway into other accounts. The hacker can simply click “forgot password” at login and have a password reset link sent right to your email inbox, which they now control.

What happens if I click on a phishing email?

If you open an attachment or click on a phishing link in these emails or messages that appear to be from someone you know and trust, malicious software like ransomware, spyware, or a virus will be installed on your device. It usually happens behind the scenes, so the average person cannot detect it.
